“We had 65kW of rooftop solar on our machinery shed that was being curtailed to zero export by AusNet for six months of the year. David came out to our property and spent eight hours running thermal scans on our switchboards and checking our transformer voltage drop. He discovered our sub-board neutral link was running dangerously hot at 68°C under test load. He gave our local electrician clear cable sizing schematics that allowed us to commission our 18-unit setup safely without tripping our main farm supply.”

“The two days in Cowwarr were packed with hands-on bench work. We disassembled Antminer S19 Pro hashboards, probed the 1.8V LDO rails with oscilloscopes, and learned how to replace dried-out thermal paste with phase-change pads. Day one felt slightly overwhelming due to the sheer volume of circuit theory and domain voltage math thrown at us before lunch, but by the end of day two I had successfully revived two test boards that had persistent chip dropouts. The physical diagnostic checklist Marcus provided is now pinned to our workshop bench.”
Brett O'Connor
“Our shipping container setup in regional NSW was thermal throttling every afternoon when ambient temps crossed 34°C. Callum helped us calculate our actual static pressure losses across the intake filters. We redesigned our hot aisle partition wall and switched from high-resistance paper filters to multi-pocket synthetic bag filters based on his CFM curves. Last week during a 37°C scorcher, machine chip temps held steady at 71°C without a single fan error.”
Nathaniel Ward
“We commissioned Focus Layer Core to evaluate whether our planned 120kW commercial solar installation could support daytime compute loads. The report was remarkably candid—it steered us away from buying top-dollar brand new silicon, showing how the lower daily operating hours would drag out our payback period. Instead, they mapped out an under-volted previous-generation hardware strategy that matched our inverter output curves while protecting the chips from daily thermal cycle shock.”
Eileen Vance
“I drove up from Sale for the one-day immersion lab. Being able to see a working 4-tank single-phase dielectric setup in person, measure fluid viscosity differences, and understand heat exchanger plate sizing took away all the guesswork. Marcus walked us through the exact torque specs for tank seals and showed us how to reflash the control boards with fan simulator profiles. Straightforward, practical teaching without any fluff.”
Resolving 68°C Switchboard Overheating on a Bairnsdale Farm
The Constraint
A Gippsland grazier installed 18 high-efficiency Antminer S19 units inside an agricultural shed powered by a 65kW solar array. Within two months, the main circuit breaker suffered nuisance trips, and the local distribution board emitted a distinct burnt-phenolic odour.
Our Audit & Rectification
Focus Layer Core conducted a full day on-site audit. Thermal imaging identified that while the three active phase conductors were operating at an acceptable 42°C, the neutral link was carrying 78 Amps of triplen harmonic return current and had reached 68°C due to severe phase imbalance and undersized neutral wiring.
We drafted a revised single-line diagram with an upsized 200% neutral conductor, balanced individual C19 circuits across all three phases, and specified Type C motor-rated circuit breakers. The installation has operated continuously through summer without a single thermal incident.
